Throwers Shine at West Chester for Women's Track & Field

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's track & field team sent a trio of throwers to compete at the West Chester Open on Friday evening. With each thrower competing in two events, the Fords came back with one runner-up finish and five places in the top 10.

Emily Anderson recorded the runner-up finish for the Fords with a toss of 112 feet, 11 inches (34.41 meters) in the discus. Anderson also added a seventh place finish in the shot put with a new personal best of 33'11.5" (10.35 meters). Her new PR keeps her ranked 10th in school history in the event.

Claire Sargent was Haverford's top finisher in the shot put with a throw of 37'10.75." Sargent, ranked second in school history in the event, came up with a throw that has only been topped by her and two other individuals in program history. She added a seventh place finish in the discus with a throw of 96 feet, two inches (29.32 meters).

Juanita St. Thomas-Grimes posted her top 10 finish with an eighth place showing in the discus. Her best throw came with a measurement of 79 feet, five inches (24.20 meters). St. Thomas-Grimes was also 12th in the shot put with her toss of 27 feet, two inches (8.28 meters).

Women's track and field will continue its weekend tomorrow when the Fords travel to The College of New Jersey.
