Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophie Drew repeated her honor from the fall cross country season as she has also been selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team for the track & field season. Drew was an NCAA qualifier for the Fords during the outdoor track & field season to cap a standout four-year career for the team captain.

The all-area team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order to be eligible for academic all-area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. Haverford was one of only three NCAA schools, including Division I, II, and III with more than one student-athlete named to the academic all-area team.

An Ambler Scholar-Athlete at Haverford, presented to the senior student-athletes with the top 16 cumulative GPAs, Drew finishes her career as a two-time NCAA qualifier. In addition to her 17th-place finish in the 1,500 meters during this past spring's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Drew was also a scoring runner on the 2017 cross country team that advanced to the NCAA Championships.

A three-time All-Mideast selection after her 1,500 meters this spring during her career, Drew was also a six-time All-Centennial Conference performer across all three seasons. She earned those honors twice during the outdoor season and four times on the indoor surface. Drew was part of Haverford's Centennial Conference Championship distance medley relay during her first-year and was on the runner-up 4x800 relay time a total of four times; three times indoors (2016, 18, 19) and once outdoors (2019).

The Haverford co-captain of both the cross country and track & field team can find her name written all over the Haverford College record books as she is the seventh-fastest 1,500 meter runner in school history. She won 1,500 meter individual championships at the Bill Butler and Widener Invitational this spring and has won six individual events throughout her track career. Drew has also been part of the fourth and sixth-quickest 4x800 relays during her outdoor career. On the indoor surface, Drew is ranked ninth in both the 1,000 meter and 3,000 meters. She was also on the fourth and seventh-fastest 4x800 relays, along with the ninth-quickest DMR.

Drew is a nine-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll selection and will earn USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete status for the third time later this spring while holding a double-major in biology and Spanish.
