Women's Track & Field: Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships Preview

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track & field team heads to Ursinus College today to begin a three-day stint at the 2022 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Haverford has captured the team title on five occasions, last rising to the top of the team standings in 2009, completing a four-year run of dominance. The Centennial Conference Championship gets underway in earnest on Friday afternoon and continues through Sunday. The Fords placed fourth as a team at 2019's championship meet as they scored 68.5 points.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: FRIDAY
Action begins on Friday with Kayla Robinson competing in the Heptathlon. The first event to hit the track is the Heptathlon 100-meter hurdles which will begin right away with a 1 p.m. start time. The pole vault is also slated for a 1p.m. start, with Alice Creed entering that event as the seventh seed (3.05 meters). Sydney Cummings and Ceanne Lyon will throw the hammer at approximately 2:30 p.m. before Katie Hirsche headlines the day with her 10,000-meter time of 38:09.76 entering as the top seed, representing an early chance for Haverford to claim a gold on day one (5:45 p.m.).

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: SATURDAY
Saturday's action will see Robinson continue Heptathlon events at 11 a.m. before the long jump begins at noon, with Robinson and Fiona Flynn each notching top-15 seeds in that grouping. Jahsaiah Moses competes in the 100 meter hurdles at 1:05 p.m, looking to advance to Sunday's final, while Cortlyn Morris will then throw the discus at 1:30 p.m. just after Isabel Thornberry takes the track looking to make a splash in the 400-meter dash prelims (1:20 p.m.), where she enters as the fourth seed, one of four runners to break the minute mark in the event. 

Moses then returns to the track for the 100-meter dash prelims at 2:05 p.m., where she opens as the fifth seed (12.69). The 800-meter prelims then hit the track at 2:40 p.m. with a large grouping of Haverford runners looking for qualification to Sunday's final. That group includes Lauren Tanel (2:26.41), Juliet Young (2:33.06), Ella Fleming (2:33.96), and Annemarie Wood (2:43.23). 

Fiona Flynn and Rachel November will compete in the 400-meter hurdles prelims at 3:20 p.m. before Naomi Fukuda navigates a grounded field in the 200-meter dash prelims at 3:55 p.m. The 4x800 meter relay then hits the track at 4:30 p.m. to round out day two action.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: SUNDAY
Medal events galore on Sunday as Robinson, Morris, and Cummings each compete in the shot put to open the events at 11 a.m. The Fords then compete in one of their signature events this season, looking for a podium finish in the 4x100 meter relay at 11:10 a.m.

The finals of the 100-meter hurdles (12:30 p.m.) and 400 meters (12:50 p.m.) then hit the track, before Cummings and Morris throw the javelin at 1 p.m. - More finals action then hits the track with the 100-meter dash (1:10 p.m.) and 800meters (1:30 p.m.). The final field event of the day is the triple jump, with Robinson entering as the fifth seed (10.66 meters). The 400-meter hurdle finals (1:50 p.m.) come before the 200-meter hurdle finals at 2:10 p.m.

The 5,000-meter grouping hits the track at 2:50 p.m., with Hirsche entering as the fourth seed in that event (18.08.29). The 4x400 meter relay then wraps up the weekend at approximately 3:30 p.m.
