NEWVILLE, Pa. – The No. 20 Haverford College women's cross country team placed third overall at the 2015 Mideast Regional at Big Spring High School. The Fords just missed an automatic qualifying slot to NCAA Championship, but did have four runners earn regional accolades for their placements among the top 35 individual finishers.

Two of those runners, Katie Sullivan and Amelia Keyser-Gibson, have already punched their tickets to the NCAA Championship as individual qualifiers with the announcement of team qualifiers to come on Sunday.

No. 1 Johns Hopkins took the team title with a total of 33 points. No. 21 Dickinson edged the No. 20 Fords as the Red Devils scored 100 points. Haverford finished the meet with 116 points, while Elizabethtown was the fourth place team with a distant 152 points. Johns Hopkins and Dickinson automatically qualified to the NCAA Championship with their respective top two team finishes.

Sullivan earned all-region honors and an automatic ticket to the NCAA Championship as an individual by being among the top seven individuals not among the top two teams. Sullivan placed ninth overall with a time of 22:12.6 as the team's top finisher for the second consecutive race. She was fifth overall among runners not on Johns Hopkins and Dickinson.

Keyser-Gibson placed 12th overall as she also claimed all-region accolades for the first time in her career. Her time of 22:18.6 put her seventh among runners not on the qualifying teams. Nora Weathers earned all-region honors for the third time in her career. She placed 14th overall with a time of 22:19.5.

Maggie Heffernan and Nicole Giannetti rounded out the top five scoring runners for the team. Heffernan earned all-region accolades for the second consecutive year. She placed 34th overall with a time of 23:05.1. Giannetti placed 47th overall with a time of 23:26.2. Sarah Wade (24:19.9) and MaryKate Cavanaugh (25:14.0) rounded out the team's seven runners with their 105th and 152nd place finishes in the field of 365 entrants.

With today's third place result, the Fords appear to have a strong case to claim one of the 16 at-large spots across the country. At-large bids to round out the field of 32 teams that will appear at the NCAA Championship will be announced Sunday on NCAA.com.
