
HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's cross country team competed in the annual Haverford Invitational Friday afternoon, marking the second of two races held at the Alumni Cross Country Course for the 2024 campaign. The Fords finished in fifth place out of seven competing teams, with a score of 105 points, placing above Metro Region foes Bryn Mawr and Rutgers-Camden.
Alice Sappenfield led the Haverford contingent by finishing 21st, clocking a time of 19:29.6. Right behind Sappenfield was Anastasia Jaycobs, who took home 22nd place with a time of 19:32.2.
Krysta Nichols grabbed 31st place with a time of 20:31.7, while Poppy Chrisman trailed closely behind the senior, finishing in 32nd place with a time of 20:51.6. Crossing the finish line just after Chrisman was rookie Dalia Smid, who completed the 5,000-meter trek in 34th place with a time of 21:08.9.
With a time of 21:24.9 and a 36th place finish, Bianca Ortiz was the Fords' sixth scorer of the race, followed by Maia Poremba, who rounded out the top seven with a time of 22:14.4, taking 42nd overall.
Other Haverford finishers included Katie Strutton (47th, 23:16.1), Claire Parsons (48th, 23:17.0), Judy Xie (49th, 23:36.4), and Grace Hannigan (52nd, 23:42.8).
The three Division I schools that participated on Friday took the top three spots in the competition, with Penn claiming first place with 28 points. Navy slotted into second place with 31 points, while St. Joseph's (Pa.) placed third with a score of 89 points.
The women's cross country team will have a little over a week to prepare for their next competition, the Centennial Conference Championships, which will be held on Saturday, November 2. The Dickinson-hosted conference meet will take place at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa., with an 11 a.m. start time.
