Women's Cross Country Places Fourth at Centennial Championship

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Haverford College women's cross country team ran to a fourth place finish at the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Fords closed the gap on rival Swarthmore, but were bested by just five placements. Johns Hopkins (23 points) and Dickinson (50 points) claimed the top two spots in the team standings.

The Fords finished with a trio of top 20 finishes as Izzy Miller (23:20.7), Griffin Kaulbach (2:23.2), and Hannah Doll (23:26.8) came across the line in successive 18th, 19th, and 20th place finishes. Sheena Dwyer-McNulty (23:41.3) was Haverford's fourth scorer in her championship debut while Natalia Cordon set a new 6,000 meter personal-best time of 23:57.9 to finish one spot behind her teammate in the 29th position. Amalia Axinn (23:59.0) was right behind her in 30th place.

The tight pack continued across the line for the Fords as their first through seventh finishers were separated by just 41 seconds. Cate Tomson filled out Haverford's top seven in her championship debut with a time of 24:01.9.

Angie Petrichenko (24:06.1) and Jolie Jaycobs (24:21.2) turned in top 40 individual finishes, claiming the 35th and 39th positons. Mckenna Krall (24:58.0) broke the 25-minute mark while Ellie Keating (25:01.3) and Mariana Ramirez (27:33.3) also competed in the first championship race of their respective cross country careers.

In addition to the varsity race, Haverford had nine additional entrants in the open race. Faizah Khan led the Fords to the finish in her first 6,000 meter race of the year, crossing with a time of 25:37. Eva White ran a personal-best time of 26:26 to earn a top 20 placement. Lauren Tanel (26:42), Maggie Doubman (27:04), Marly Banatte (27:04), Zoe Arditi (27:09), Sophie Schleifer (27:32), and Annie Connolly-Sporing (27:53) all finished among the top 30 runners. Rhea Chandran followed her teammates to the line with a time of 28:36.

Women's cross country will continue its championship season in two weeks when its returns to Lehigh's course for the 2019 Mideast Regional. That race will also be a 12 p.m. noon start on Saturday, November 16 for the women. The top two finishing teams on that day will earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships.
