Women's Cross Country Checks In at No. 32 Nationally, Tops Metro Region

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's cross country team checks in at No. 32 in the latest release of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Poll, the organization announced in its weekly release.

Defending Centennial champions Johns Hopkins top the national poll, followed by Wartburg, Washington-St. Louis, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Chicago. Centennial foe Dickinson is currently the seventh-ranked squad while the Fords are the only ranked team from the Metro region, checking in at 32nd heading into a big pre-regional test at Rowan next weekend.

Short-handed Haverford impressed in last Friday's Paul Short Run Brown Race. In a field of 342 runners from all three divisions, Senior Angie Petrichenko and first year Katie Hirsche grabbed top 20 finishes in the event. Petrichenko finished 15th in the race with a 6k personal best of 21:41.3, which beat her previous PR of 23:00.8, set at the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Cross Country Championships back in 2019. Right behind Petrichenko was Hirsche, finishing in 18th with a time of 21:47.0. It was Hirsche's first 6K in a Haverford top and a personal best for her as well.

Haverford and Swarthmore remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the Metro Region, followed by No. 3 TCNJ, but Ursinus and Moravian swapped spots to sandwich Stockton. Each of those top-6 teams competed at the Paul Short Run this past weekend, albeit in different races. Haverford and Swarthmore battled in the Brown Race, while Ursinus edged Moravian in the Women's College White 6k, as they finished 12th and 13th, respectively.

Women's Cross Country now returns to action in two weeks time, heading to Glassboro, N.J. for the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle. The race is slated to begin at 11:45 a.m.
