Women's Cross Country Competes at Rowan Border Battle

GLOUCESTER TWP, N.J. - The Haverford College women's cross country team logged a 23rd place finish in a crowded field of 35 teams at the Rowan Border Battle on Saturday afternoon at the Dream Park complex in Gloucester County. The teams battled some wet, muddy conditions brought on by rains earlier in the week that peppered the course with some challenging areas for the harriers.

Katie Hirsche was the top Haverford finisher in the annual event, crossing in 40th place overall with a time of 23:27.3. Hirsche has paced the Fords at each meet this season, and was the top Centennial Conference finisher in the 6K meet, which also featured Bryn Mawr and Johns Hopkins.

Hirsche was followed by Dominique Monroy, who was the 174th to cross in 25:57.1. Carly Priest logged an 180th place finish (26:03.9), while Krysta Nichols was the fourth to cross for the Fords in 181st overall (26:04.5). Jessie Hausman rounded out the Haverford scorers in 194th (26:22.0). Just outside the scoring for Haverford was Audrey Carter, who logged a 221st place finish (27:08), while Sophia Furman (242nd, 27:52.6) and Annemarie Wood (250th, 28:25.2) rounded out the Fords' contingent on Saturday.

The meet was won by the nation's top-ranked team, SUNY Geneseo. Geneseo finished with 37 total points, just one clear of Carleton who finished with 38 points. RPI, Elizabethtown and Widener rounded out the top five.

A contingent from Haverford will now hop right back into action on Friday, October 21 at home for the Haverford Invitational at 4:30 p.m. The meet will serve as a final tune-up for the Fords before the Centennial Conference Championships, which will be hosted at home on the Alumni Cross Country Course on Saturday, October 29. The women's race is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
