HAVERFORD, Pa. — Beginning Monday, June 16, the Arn '76 and Nancy Tellem Fitness Center inside the Douglas B. Gardner '83 Integrated Athletic Center (GIAC) will undergo a temporary transition to accommodate construction of new fitness center flooring. During this time, cardio equipment will be relocated to the second-floor Swan Multipurpose Room, which will serve as the temporary fitness center space for approximately two months.
The Swan Multipurpose Room will follow the same posted summer hours as the fitness center, enabling users to maintain their regular workout routines. However, please note that there will be limited to no access to weightlifting equipment during this period. The permanent fitness center space will fully close at the end of the day on Friday, June 27, and will remain closed through the end of the renovation project, which is anticipated to be completed in mid-August 2025. Haverford Athletics appreciates your understanding and encourages community members to check back for updates throughout the summer.
In addition to these facility upgrades, Haverford College is launching a new access card system for the GIAC and Fitness Center. This transition affects all user groups, including alumni, Friends of the College, and employee family members. Starting June 1, both old and new access cards will work, but please note that as of July 1 2025, only the new access cards will be valid. All previous cards will be deactivated on that date.
Alumni who wish to continue using the GIAC facilities should contact the Alumni Office to request a new access card. Friends of the College must email to begin the card access process. Employee family members should ask the Haverford employee sponsoring their membership to submit a request on their behalf by using the following link.
Once a request has been submitted, new cards may be picked up from Campus Safety the next business day. Campus Safety is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A new photo will be taken at the time of pickup. Although the new system officially goes live on July 1, alumni and employee family members may begin using their new cards immediately upon issuance.
These improvements are part of Haverford's ongoing efforts to enhance the fitness and recreation experience for all community members. For any questions regarding the temporary relocation or the access card upgrade,
Please contact Nicky Miranda (nmiranda@haverford.edu) in the Athletics Office or the Office of Alumni and Family Engagement.
