Several Fords capture individual titles at Danny Curran Invite

CHESTER, Pa. – The 2012 outdoor track & field season officially opened for Haverford College's men's team with the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University on Friday and Saturday when several Fords raced to first-place finishes in individual events.

Avi Bregman, Jordan Schilit and Tim Schoch registered event victories for Haverford.

Bregman won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 36.97 seconds. Teammate Jeffrey Duncan finished seventh and Daniel Stackman (ninth) also cracked the top 10.

In the 800, indoor All-American Tim Schoch raced to the win with a time of 1:54.46, 0.37 seconds ahead of runner-up Joseph Capecci from Villanova.

Schilit, also an indoor all-American, captured the Danny Curran championship in the 1,500. His time of 3:53.45 edged out Villanova's Joseph LoRusso by three seconds. Haverford's Michael Riccio was ninth (3:59.92), nearly surpassing his career-best time of 3:59.04 in the first meet of the outdoor season.

Patrick Haneman closed out Friday's event schedule with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000 to register another strong finish for the Fords.

In his first collegiate meet, freshman Gibby Graves cleared a height of 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches) in the high jump to also garner a fourth-place finish.

The outdoor season continues for the Fords with the Sam Howell Distance Meet at Princeton University on Friday, April 6.
