Graves Wins the High Jump at Widener Invite

CHESTER, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team finished the weekend with day two of the Widener Invitational and had one individual title in senior Gibby Graves (high jump).

Graves' high jump (2.02m) just missed his personal record by one-tenth of a meter, but is the best in the Centennial Conference this season. The senior picked up his third top five finish of the weekend after placing fourth (6.58m) in the long jump.

During the 1,500m run, junior Sam Fujimori had the best time of the season for Haverford (4:04.14) to place 14th. Sophomore Julian Schneider crossed the finish line in 17th and had a personal best time of 4:04.72. Senior John Curry (4:08.42), juniors Ryan Gooding (4:09.80), Bill Ristow (4:11.40), freshman Tyler Fong (4:09.80) also had their career best times in the event.

The Fords scored another top ten when senior Chris Gardner (1:58.29) finished eighth in the 800m. In his first attempt at the 400m hurdles this spring, junior Dorvil Gabriel ran a 59.20 to place 13th.

In the shot put, senior Alex Smith had his best throw of the spring season (11.61m) and freshman George Avecillas threw his best javelin throw this spring (40.13m).

Haverford will now host a dual meet on Tuesday before traveling to the West Chester Open on Friday. The Centennial Conference Championships will be May 1-3 at Muhlenberg College.
