HAVERFORD, Pa. – In a matchup between two sides currently fighting for a top three spot in the Centennial Conference standings, not much separated the Haverford College women's soccer team and visiting Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon. The Fords (6-3-1, 3-1-1 CC) and Bullets (6-3-2, 3-1-1 CC) were as close as their records indicated in a scoreless draw on Walton Field.

Haverford had the better of the play early on as the Fords racked up a 7-3 advantage in shots during the opening half. The Fords put four of those attempts on frame, but Gettysburg goalie Kerry Sammon was up to the test each time, keeping the match level. The Fords also a held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks following 45 minutes of scoreless soccer.

Gettysburg began to tip the offensive chances back in its own favor after the halftime break and finished the match with a 12-8 advantage in shots and 5-4 edge in total corner kick opportunities. Haverford goalie Julie Hanss was called on to make a pair of saves during the opening half and three more during the second half. During the overtime session, the closest either team came to scoring was when Gettysburg's Lauren Miesemer hit the post during the first overtime session.

Hanss has now started each of Haverford's three defensive shutouts this season, earning the clean sheet as the team's only goalie to see playing time during the Fords' two shutouts this week. In the attacking third, Katie Safter was the only Haverford player to record two shots. That total included a header that traveled wide of goal during the overtime session.

Women's soccer will be on the road next week for two more Centennial Conference matchups. The Fords travel to Washington College on Wednesday, October 10 for a 7 p.m. game under the lights. Next Saturday, Haverford will battle McDaniel during a 1 p.m. start.
