HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (10-5-1, 4-3-1 CC)  dropped a Centennial Conference match to No. 14 Johns Hopkins (11-2-3, 8-1-0 CC)  by a score of 2-1, on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon at historic Walton Field. Prior to the match, the Fords held a pregame ceremony honoring Phoebe Garfield, Grace Haskell, Sarah Klink, Ella Manning, Sophia Miranda, and Keira Prince, for Senior Day.

The Fords got off to an electric start in just the second minute. Keira Prince blazed down the flank, before putting a teasing ball in towards the near post. Grace Haskell extended her foot towards the ball and punched it into the net, giving the hosts a very early 1-0 lead, electrifying the home crowd.

In the 29th minute, the visitors found their equalizing goal. Following a cross sent in towards the net by Carolyn Johnson, Haverford goalkeeper Lily Buyer did her best to knock the ball down and out of danger. Unfortunately, the ball bounced towards Carrie McIntire who redirected the ball into the net, leveling the match at 1-1.

Just seconds later, JHU quickly found the back of the net once again just 26 seconds later. Following a turnover in the Fords' own end, Natalie Smith made a low driven pass into the box towards the feet of Johnson, who slotted the ball past Buyer, giving the visitors a 2-1 advantage.

The second half started off with a quick chance by McIntire looking for goal number two, however Buyer made a nice save to turn away the opportunity. In the 66th minute, Olivia Daulerio found a golden opportunity, as the junior sprinted down the left side of the pitch. She put a shot on net towards a charging Tia Harrison, but the Johns Hopkins goalkeeper made a brilliant save denying the Fords an opportune chance.

Both teams continued causing dangerous chances in the second half with shots from Abigail Baker of Haverford and Katie Sullivan of the Blue Jays, but Harrison and Haverford reserve goalkeeper Allie Billups stood tall, keeping the ball out of the back of the net on their respective ends.

The final goal of the first half proved to be the eventual game-winner, as JHU left Walton field with a 2-1 victory. The Blue Jays outshot the Fords 12-5, as Sullivan set the tone for JHU with five shots, placing two on frame. The Scarlet and Black were paced by Abigale Baker, who led the charge for the Fords with two shots. In net, Buyer denied three menacing chances by the Blue Jays, while Billups made a stop on the only shot she faced.

Next up for the Fords is their final home match of the season, as Bi-Co neighbor Bryn Mawr pays a visit to historic Walton Field on Wednesday, October 30. The Centennial Conference clash between the two crosstown rivals is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
