HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 overtime setback on Saturday against Dickinson (10-3-2, 5-2-1 CC). Prior to the match, the Fords (7-5-2, 4-3-1 CC) honored the nine members of its senior class as part of the team's Senior Day festivities.
In a very possession-oriented contest throughout the afternoon, the teams combined for just nine shots during the nearly 92 minutes of soccer. The teams had just two shots each after 45 minutes of play, but started to gain more offensive traction as the match wore on. Haverford had the first great chance of the second half as the Fords earned a corner kick just over five minutes in. The insert from Sydney West found Kendra Greisman in the box, but Greisman's header traveled just over the crossbar and out of harm's way.
The Red Devils thought they had the match won late in regulation time as Julie Hanss made an initial save off the shot from Tara Dedrickson. The rebound found the feet of Elizabeth Krause, but her attempt ricocheted off of the post and out of the box as the teams prepared for the overtime session.
Following 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, it took Dickinson just 1:16 into the extra period to find the back of the net as Charlotte Glancy scored off of a direct kick that was put into play by Killian Donohue. The Red Devils finished the match was a 5-4 edge in shots, but Haverford held the upper hand with a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Hanss made three saves for the Fords in net. The Fords' only shot on goal of the match came from Mia Reyes with just over two minutes to play in regulation. However, that attempt was denied by Dickinson goalie Mary Katherine Brosnan – who recorded the shutout for her side.
With today's result, the Fords are currently just one point back of a playoff spot with two matches to go in the regular season. Haverford will welcome Bi-Co neighbor Bryn Mawr to Walton Field this Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start before traveling to rival Swarthmore next Saturday for a 7 p.m. match under the lights to cap the regular season.
