Centennial Conference release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College women's soccer co-captain Lindsay Wytkind has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Fords to two more Centennial Conference victories this past week against Ursinus and Gettysburg. This player of the week accolade is the second of Wytkind's career as she previously won this same award during the 2018 season after victories over those same Bears and Bullets.

Haverford's defense limited Gettysburg and Ursinus to just 14 combined shots, seven of which were on goal, during the 2-0 week. Those results included the Fords shutting out a Gettysburg side which came into Saturday's match undefeated and averaging 2.78 goals per match. The Bullets managed just three shots on goal during Haverford's 1-0 victory as Alyssa Saito scored her first career goal during the 74th minute of play for the game-winner.

The Fords have shut out eight of their 12 opponents this season to lead the Centennial Conference in that category. Wytkind is the third different player on Haverford's defense to be recognized by the conference as goalkeeper Hannah Friedrich and defender Emily Thissen were also named defensive players of the week back during the month of September. For good measure, Leanne Ludwick has additionally been named CC Offensive Player of the Week this season. Haverford is allowing just 0.49 goals per game so far this season for the second best mark in the conference and 22nd lowest average in all of Division III.

Wytkind and the rest of the Haverford backline have allowed the opposition just 90 total shots through 12 contests, an average of 7.5 attempts per match. Opponents have been limited to less than three shots on goal per match so far this season, an average that has dropped under 2.5 shots on goal during the team's current 11 match unbeaten streak.

Following the road victories, the Fords return to Walton Field this week for two more Centennial Conference showdowns. On Wednesday, Haverford welcomes Washington College to its home field for a 4 p.m. start. This Saturday, the Fords will take on McDaniel at 12 p.m. noon. The Fords are currently third overall in the Centennial Conference standings, but trail the first-place Green Terror by just two points despite having played one less match than each of the two teams that are currently ahead of them in the standings.
