Women's Soccer Honors Nine Seniors Prior to Matchup with Gettysburg

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (6-4-5, 2-3-4 CC) was edged by visiting Gettysburg (6-6-3, 3-3-2 CC) on Saturday afternoon at Walton Field, falling by a 1-0 final. Prior to the kickoff, Haverford honored its nine seniors (Meg Bowen, Ashley Chun, Claire Cywes, Calais Irwin, Kendall Ozorowski, Celia Page, Alana Ponte, Alyssa Saito, and April Zeng) with a pregame ceremony to their commitment and dedication to the Haverford program.

When game action began, it was the Fords coming out firing as Sarah Klink and Page each put shots on frame in the first 15 minutes of action. Jane Daiutolo and Dani Bloching tested Cywes with early shots on target, but ultimately the lone goal of the contest came in the 35th minute of action as the Bullets earned a free kick. Jordan Weinberg looped in a goal from outside of the box to give her side the early lead.

Forced to chase the equalizer, Haverford went back to work with Grace Haskell putting a shot on target in the final 10 minutes of the first half before the two sides headed for intermission with shots even at 3-3.

Cywes was called into action in the 46th minute, stopping a Molly O'Shea shot, and the senior keeper also denied O'Shea in the 60th minute.

Keira Prince had a great shot on frame in the 74th minute as Haverford played the ball into the attacking third after regaining possession around midfield, but Caitlin Amman made the save for the Bullets. While the ball initially trickled away from Amman and Prince put the ball into the back of the net, the play was whistled dead prior to Prince's salvo.

Haverford kept the offensive pressure on despite that setback, with Prince and Sadie Kim each tallying shots in the final 10 minutes. Ultimately, Gettysburg did well to keep the possession in its attacking third and limit the Haverford chances in the final moments.

Gettysburg held a slight 10-7 advantage in shots on the afternoon, with Gettysburg holding a 3-2 lead in corner kicks. Cywes made six saves on her Senior Day.

With the race for the Centennial Conference playoffs entering its final week, women's soccer now wraps up the regular season on Saturday, heading to Swarthmore for a Hood Trophy rivalry series game that is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
